The time comes every now and again when I am asked to recommend a print company to a friend. It’s hard, because I don’t work directly in print anymore, but there are companies that I do recommend and am happy to do so. That said, I usually start with location – if you have a print company near to you, you’re probably better to use them. Go and visit, get a feel for the place and the staff and go from there. It’s perhaps human nature that any company will do a better job for someone who they have met, and who they know will be collecting the job in person – and probably checking it while they do so. This is especially true for items like outdoor banners.
When looking for leaflets printing services the internet is the obvious way to start. When searching for services, Google will take your location into account, but if you’re struggling to find anywhere local just add the name of your town and this should give you local results. With the advent of the internet, and the arrival of cheap websites, like you’d get from web design leeds, finding a printing service has never been easier.
Ok, you’ve found a print service (my last recommendation was a company called Aura Print) and you’ll be wanting to visit them. Give them a call and find out when’s a suitable time to pop in for a chat. A lot of companies are really busy at certain times of the day (like when the courier collects) so it’s best to avoid those. Catch the customer support team at a quieter time and you’ll have more fun chatting with them about printing stickers. Get them to give you the tour – look at the machinery and ask what kind of work they do. Don’t be too worried if the place is a bit untidy – busy printers often are, and they’ll be busy for a reason.
If you’re happy with what you see and hear, chat about what you need and talk pricing. Don’t quibble about a few quid here or there. Print can be difficult to price and some jobs, especially small quantities, can vary a lot. Get a decent print run done – don’t waste their time with 50 business cards – and they will look after you for the future. You’ll get better value for money this way, anyway.
Under absolutely NO circumstances say:
“If you do me a great price on this little order, I’ve got loads more work that I can put your way!”
We HATE that, and it’s almost never true…..
